The book will introduce you to a wide collection of art of Ancient Russia, presented in the Tretyakov gallery. The works decorating the collection were created in the period from the beginning of the XII century to the second half of the XVII century — from pre-Mongol times and ending with the works of Simon Ushakov.

This publication describes the existence of each icon from the collection, as well as how the old Russian collection of the Gallery itself was formed. In addition, the book shows how some traditional Russian iconographic subjects were changed and interpreted in different periods of time.

The publication is intended for all readers who are interested in the art of Ancient Russia.
